The state’s leading voice on charter public school authorizing policies and practices met this week to elect its board leadership for the coming year.
The Michigan Council of Charter School Authorizers, which consists of 10 active authorizers, voted in the following key leaders for 2018–19:
- Chair: Dr. Rob Kimball, Associate Vice President for Charter Schools, Grand Valley State University Charter Schools Office
- Vice-Chair: Mr. Corey Northrop, Executive Director, The Governor John Engler Center for Charter Schools at Central Michigan University
- Treasurer: Dr. Jendayi Gardner, Executive Director of Charter Schools, Detroit Public Schools Community District Office of Charter Schools
- Secretary: Dr. David Lewis, Director, School/University Partnership Office at Saginaw Valley State University
“Though we represent diverse institutions, each Council member shares the goal of innovating in public education to better meet student needs,” said Dr. Rob Kimball, incoming board chair. “Our collective work in the charter community empowers parents with choices, teachers with opportunities, and kids with hope for a bright future. I am honored to be elected chair of this important organization.”
