Dr. Malverne C. Winborne

Dr. Malverne Winborne is the Director of Eastern Michigan University’s Charter Schools Office. Prior to his appointment as Director, he had been the Associate Director from 2002 to 2009 and Interim Director from 2009 to 2010.  Dr. Winborne provides charter school leaders and boards with information about student assessment and consultation on techniques for enhancing school performance. Dr. Winborne’s educational background includes a B.S. degree in psychology from Morgan State University, a Master of Arts from the University of Michigan in psychology as well as a Doctorate in education and psychology from the University of Michigan. Dr. Winborne has an extensive background in research and organizational development. His professional experience includes a number of years spent as a researcher, college professor and management consultant in both the private and public sectors. Dr. Winborne believes that charter schools represent one option for inspiring innovation in educating public school students in Michigan. He resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his wife.
